About My Blog & What You Can Expect Here

July 24, 2009 by Kat Leave a Comment

Hi! These are things that you should know about this blog and what you can expect when you come here.

This is my personal blog where I can share parts of my life and and the things that interest me (and others hopefully!). I blog not just to talk about myself and my family but to share my family’s experiences so that they may help someone else, but also to ask for your shared knowledge, experiences and advice in return.

I blog about many topics but there are a few that are near and dear to my heart including living with a chronic illness, being a single mom and raising two boys with different disabilities, including autism. (not necessarily in that order!) Some of my more (fun) frequently “blogged about” topics such as couponing, freebies, humor, scrapbooking, etc., are all a part of my life and may change from time to time depending on what I’m doing at the time. Sometimes you will find blog posts that don’t really fit into any category because they are just things I want to share but not on a regular basis or maybe I’m just voicing my opinion on something. Hopefully you can use the search tool to help find posts that are archived since Blogger’s monthly archiving doesn’t really help when you are looking for information on a particular topics. Alternatively, you can try the tag cloud, although choosing tags for a post is difficult for me because you can tag everything you talk about right? 🙂

My No Advertising Policy

One thing you should know about is that I love to share! Why else would I be blogging in this way, right? So if I find something that is helpful to me and I think that may help you, I’ll share it. However, I do not post affiliate links or ads on my blog because I want you to know that when I write about or post my opinion about something, it’s real, true, honest and not clouded by money in any way. The only exception to this policy is when I link to a coupon at coupons.com, I sometimes use my affiliate link (if I remember!). The reason I feel that it is okay to do this is because I’m not selling you anything, I’m simply showing you where to print a coupon. If I can get a dime here and there for doing that, I don’t see anything wrong with that 🙂 It doesn’t influence the content of my site so I thnk that an exception here is okay.

I chose to create my blog this way because I am often disappointed by many otherwise wonderful web sites and blogs who post links to other web sites, products or services (even freebies) turn out to be affiliate links that are bothersome or annoying surveys, etc.. Because I research everything before I try or buy it, I want real reviews and opinions by people like me who have tried it, otherwise, why bother researching at all? Unfortunately, when I click on a link and it’s an affiliate link, there is no way for me to know if the person really recommends it because they have tried it or if they are just posting a link to make a little cash. (I’ll click on any coupon link though! LOL)

These principles apply to everything you will ever see on the Scrappin’ Through Life Kat blog, including the freebies in my “Freebie Friday” posts. I personally sign up for every single one of the freebies before I post them because I HATE those “fake” freebies where you get stuck in a loop of “offers” and surveys and never get the so called “freebie”. If I ever post a freebie that I haven’t signed up for, I’ll let you know up front. (There are freebies I don’t need but you may, like baby stuff, etc. LOL). If I stop using a product or service (or web site) because I am not happy with it, I will remove it from the site and depending on the situation, may post my reasons for doing so.

The bottom line is that I will never compromise the integrity of this blog with advertising and anything I share with you is my true and personal opinion.

My “Kat’s Favorite Places” Widget

There is one section on my blog where you may find links that I could possibly profit from and I want to make sure that they are clear so you can choose whether or not to visit them.

I frequently receive emails my blog readers asking me for information and resources such as where I go for certain information, groups I belong to, how I get coupons, codes, savings, rebates, etc. So I created a widget in side column of my blog called “Kat’s Favorites Places” where I list the following types of resources:

  • My own web sites
  • Groups & Communities I belong to
  • My favorite web sites on a particular subject (autism, etc.)
  • Web sites where I find my freebies, deals, coupons, etc.
  • Places I go when I shop online
  • Services I currently use and recommend

The links I list in this widget are NOT random links, they are MY PERSONAL links that I use and recommend. If you see a * in front of it you will know that I can earn money by sharing it so you can choose whether to click on it or not with that knowledge. Most everything I do is free anyway (lol), but now you know what to expect while you are visiting Scrappin’ Through Life With Kat!

I hope that this helps and if you have any questions or comments, please feel to free post them below. Thanks for visiting my blog!
