I want to talk about cricut mats and their stickiness. My cricut mats lose their stickiness quite often and for the past few months I’ve been using my Zig 2-way glue pen to “re-sticky” them. Recently, I came across a couple of videos that showed the following two products which were made just for this purpose.
The blue can is Stick Away, which removes old adhesive, and the purple can is Stick & Spray which is a repositionable adhesive made especially for electronic die cutting mats (cricut mats!).
The videos say to spray your mat with the Stick Away, wait about 30 seconds and then scrape all the sticky goo away using something similar to the cricut scraper that comes in the tool kit. Once that’s done, wash the mat with soap and water.
Next, you use painter’s tape to cover the edges of the mat and then spray the Stick & Spray on your mat. You wait about 15 minutes or so and then you can use your mat.
So I tried it and I have to say that although it’s more difficult to remove the sticky than what the videos stated (that could be because my mats had Zig 2-way glue on them!), it works really well! It’s not too sticky like a new cricut mat but just sticky enough! I used my mat all day today and so far its still sticky so we will see how long it stays that way.
If you are looking for a safe and economical way to re-sticky your mats, I highly recommend this method. Although you can buy the Stick Away and the Stick & Spray from the product manufacturer (CraftersCompanion.com), the cheapest place I’ve found to purchase it is at Custom Crops.com. That’s where I bought mine.
I hope this helps, if you have any questions please feel free to leave me a comment. Now, back to my cricut!
