Kat’s Thoughts on Religion and Politics

June 10, 2009 by Kat Leave a Comment

Because this blog is a personal blog and I am very outspoken about things, I thought that maybe I should post a brief overview of my point of view on a few topics. This is a basis for everything I have posted and will post in the future on this blog.

The two biggest beliefs I have with regard to religion and politics are:

  • Agree to disagree
  • Be respectful of others opinions or beliefs and their right to them

I do not believe in being “politically correct” for the sake of it, I do however, believe in being what I like to call “responsibly honest”. This means being honest about our opinions or views without hurting others. We all know that sometimes that is not possible, because we can’t be responsible for how others feel and have no way of knowing what will hurt their feelings or offend them. However, there is a way to say what you mean without intentionally pissing someone off or hurting their feelings.

That’s basically the way I try to live my life. I’m not going to lie or pretend just to avoid hurting someone’s feelings, but I will NEVER intentionally hurt anyone. As I mentioned, I am outspoken, but I will withhold my personal opinions or any knowledge I may have about something if I think it will not have a positive impact. If I have something to say that may help someone, it’s out there, if not, why say it? I avoid negativity, it has no place in my life.

Religion and Politics

First let me say for the record that I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs, whether I agree with them or not. I do not think any more or less of someone as a person because of their religion or political views. I may agree or disagree with them, I may think they are this adjective or that adjective, but to be honest, I really don’t care what other people believe or do, as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else and as long as it makes them happy. Now when someone’s actions or statements offend, hurt or negatively affect others, that’s a different story. (and no annoying others doesn’t count LOL)

I believe that nobody here on earth has all the answers to anything and nothing irks me more than when someone believes that “their” way is the “only” or “right” way. I mean, really people? lol

What I believe is based on my experiences, my opinions and what is in my heart, mind and spirit and I believe the same goes for everyone else. I am neither ashamed nor proud of my beliefs, because they are my own; they are what they are and there is no reason to push them on others or to have to defend them. I don’t feel a need to share them in detail so that I can “help” or “save” the next person, that doesn’t make sense to me.

I like to keep my mind and spirit open and involve myself and my children in all different aspects of life. I chose to raise my children in a way that would allow them to see everyone’s views without judgment so that when they are old enough, they can decide what is true for THEM. I do feel strongly that everyone has their own truth and that THERE IS NO ONE RIGHT OR WRONG belief or truth for everyone.

There is nothing more annoying than someone you know, who knows you, trying to push their beliefs off on you. I mean I can understand a stranger who knocks on the door trying to do the same thing because they don’t know you and their intention is good. However, when they disrespect my personal belief, that’s where I shut the door or draw the line. It’s different when someone close to you pushes and pushes. It’s aggravating and it pushes people away which is probably the exact opposite effect they wish to achieve. Seriously though, it just makes me feel sorry for them. I almost want to pat them on the head because I know their intentions are good too, but it’s just sad to believe that someone else lives in such fear. The fear that if they cannot persuade the other person to their way of thinking, that they will be punished or somehow miss

In the end, in order to avoid conflict or the loss of a friendship or relationship with someone that I care about, I will just ask them to agree to disagree with me and they can pray for me or whatever it is they want to do. I’ll take anyone’s prayers as long as they are positive! I don’t care if they are Christian prayers, Jewish prayers, Muslim prayers, prayers are prayers! It’s all positive energy and who can turn that down? Not me!

My Sense of Humor

I try to see everything in life with a sense of humor. Not everything fits but if you can laugh about it, you can live with, right? (Or so says Erma Bombeck!) I joke about most everything but never will ill intent. If I make a joke that hurts your feelings, seriously, DON’T take it seriously! We REALLY need to have thicker skins than we do now a days!

The last thing you should probably know about me is that while we all enjoy being “liked” by others, I don’t particularly care about popularity or whether or not everyone agrees with me or “likes” me. Truly, does it really doesn’t matter if people agree with you or like you as long as you know you are being true to who you are and what you believe?

Now that you know where I stand on these issues, I hope that you will be able to read my posts and no matter what the subject, you will take it as it is given. Honestly, sometimes with a sense of humor and never with the intention of negativity or harm.

P.S. I hate typing and grammatical errors but they are everywhere in this blog! *grin*
