My Craft Space….

December 1, 2014 by Kat 4 Comments

Recently I received a very unkind comment on my YouTube video showing my scrap room.  The comment basically said that my scrap room wasn’t a scrap room, it was a “living room cluttered with scrap stuff”.  My response was “In my eyes, it is a scrap room with a tv and a couch”, It’s all how you look at it.  I may not have the prettiest or fanciest craft room but I have a place where I can create and keep all of my supplies together and it so happens to be where my living room used to be.

While I don’t owe an explanation to this less than kind crafter, I happen to craft in my living room because I am a single mom of two young men and we rarely use the living room.  It is close to my bedroom and is downstairs and is a big enough room to hold all of my stuff.  We do have an extra sun room that I could use but it’s much too small.  This is why I chose to turn my living room into a craft/scrap room. I don’t need to explain that I’m not rich and don’t have the luxury of a second income to help pay for my hobby but it’s a fact.  Does this make me unhappy?  Not at all!  I do what I can with what I have and that’s what we all should do.

Why anyone would care enough to judge where another person crafts is beyond me but this person showed me that she must be very unhappy in her own life to take the time to criticize where another crafter crafts.

I do not plan on changing a thing.  I love my craft room and have worked very hard over the years to get everything organized and looking just the way it looks now.  It works for me and it makes me happy and that’s all that matters.  In fact, I’m PROUD of my scrap room.  If you want to take a break from scrapping and sit on the couch and watch tv, it’s all right there.  How much more convenient can it get? LOL

So my message to anyone who reads this is, it matters not WHERE you create, what matters is THAT you create.  So whether you have one of those professionally designed scrap rooms that you see pinned on pinterest, or a makeshift corner in your kitchen, keep on crafting and don’t ever let anyone make you feel bad about it.

I agree with you and think the rude commenter is just that – RUDE! Your room looks 1000% neater than mine and so well organized. But I love my craft room and wouldn’t change a thing. I close the door (and close out the world) and the creative juices flow.
Keep up the good work. And thanks for sharing with us!

Right on girl. It doesn’t matter if we have a fancy craft room fitted with beautiful shelving etc, just that we craft and do what we love.

I think people should keep their comments to themselves if they have to be so negative Kat…your craft room was beautifully organised and labelled, it must be a pleasure to craft there!! I dread to think what they would say about my crafting area….. I would send you a photo of it but it’s in my bedroom and is such a mess I’d be too embarrassed…I waste so much time looking for things, but at least I get to craft eventually…keep up the good work and thank you for sharing your crafty space with us xx

It never ceases to amaze me that people feel the need to post negative comments on our blogs. I’d hate to see what she’d say about my space which I have to set up and take down each day as I use my bed as a quasi countertop/table. The good thing I guess is that I have to put stuff away but the hard part is that I have to put stuff away. 🙂 You are soooo right! Just craft away wherever you are and we need to just shake our heads over these negatory people. Here is a link to my pic’s of my ART STUDIO by DAY. http://veryinkyfingers.blogspot.com/p/my-craft-space.html
