Why I Scrapbook – About My Childhood Scrapbook

June 15, 2011 by Kat Leave a Comment

This is Why I Scrapbook…

To document my life and the lives of those that I love.  Also, I like to make pretty things!  Why do you scrapbook?

What you would learn if you looked through my childhood scrapbook…

You will learn that I was born in Florida in 1969 and have an older brother named Mike.

That I moved a lot as a child and I do mean, A LOT.  I’ve lived in more cities and have gone to more schools than I can remember.

We always had pets wherever we lived and even had a horse ranch when I was little.

My father worked in construction and my mother was a homemaker for most of my life.

My mom sewed most of my clothes when I was little and she always made the cutest outfits, except for that green dress with the lace she made me in kindergarten. Even today,  I can still feel the itch of the polyester as she pulled it over my head on picture day (lol).

My brother and I grew up with four cousins and an Aunt and Uncle who sometimes lived with us or very close to us.  They disappeared when I was about 8 or 9 and I never saw them again and still am not quite sure why, but it’s okay.

That I was a cheerleader as a little girl in elementary school and was even named Miss Panther in 1978 even though I voted for my cousin to win.

My brother was my best friend until I turned 11 and then he became a big jerk for a few years.

My mom always cooked dinner, home made from scratch, every night.  She cooked and cleaned and sewed and taxied us around every day and never asked for recognition or thanks and she rarely got it until I was older and could appreciate her and all that she did for us.

My father worked hard and was hard on us.  He did the best job he knew how but sometimes that just wasn’t good enough.

I took dance lessons, judo, modeling, singing and acrobatics as a child.  I loved every minute of it until my best friend sat on me in Judo and beat me in a tournament which made me decide to quit.

When I was 11 years old I wanted to grow up and be a famous country singer.

When I was 11-13, I went through a little bit of a “chubby” phase.  I hated it.

My first crush was on a boy named Zachary Rogers and I was in the eighth grade.  He used to “let me” take his folders home from school and I was so proud!

When I was 14, I wanted to marry a rich man when I grew up and have a maid.   I think that was the only time I ever made my father proud.

My first “real” boyfriend was Tracy Rogers when I was 15 years old.  We both worked at “Po’ Folks” restaurant in West Palm Beach Florida.  I still remember that he tasted like bubble gum ice cream when we kissed for the first time.  Oh, and that you couldn’t even tell he had braces!

My brother went from being my best friend, to my worst enemy but now that I’m 15, he has appointed himself my personal dating bodyguard and chaperone!

My first car was a 1978 Buick Skylark which I got when I was 16 years old.  My father bought it with my mother’s money and took all the credit but I knew all the time that she paid for it and as usual, never asked for acknowledgement or gratitude.

I moved out on my own with my best friend Stephanie when I was 16.  We lied about our ages to rent a condo in West Palm Beach.   I worked three jobs to pay my bills for a little while.  It sucked!

When I was 17 I became anorexic.  I hated it.  I struggled for several years until I got a job as a legal secretary (Thanks Mom) and I loved it!

When I was 21 my life began anew…that is the day my son, Justin was born.  Suddenly the world looked brand new and beautiful!

Today, my son, Justin is almost 19 and my younger son, Tyler is 14.  I’m so old now that I have several scrapbooks to fill (lol), but this is what you would learn by looking through my childhood scrapbook.

What would I learn if I looked through yours?
