Kat’s Die Storage Solutions & Dilemma (Happy Halloween!)

October 31, 2013 by Kat 2 Comments

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone!

I get asked often about die storage and how I store my dies.  I have to be honest, I store them in a couple of different ways and haven’t decided which I like best yet.  Here is what I do:

Sizzix Dies,  greeen, yellow, red and black (all sizzix dies basically) are stored in the 4 drawer storage boxes from Michael’s.

Wafer thin dies that are nested and come in sets (like Spellbinders) are kept in the Artbin Magnetic Die Cases.

Other wafer thin dies that match my stamp sets or ones I’ve bought from places like My Favorite Things, PaperTreyInk, Paper Smooches, etc., are stored in the EZMagnetic Binders.  I have the EZMagnetic Full Size EZBinder for my larger dies like borders and larger sets and then I have a EZMagnetic Mini Binder for smaller single dies or ones that are just small.

My storage solution is NOT perfect because of the following reasons:

  • I’d like to have all of my wafer thin dies stored in one place
  • When I’m flipping through the sheets in both the Artbin Magnetic Die Case and the EZMagnetic Binders, sometimes the dies will either shift or fall off altogether and that drives me nuts.

I’m considering moving all of my dies to one system but I hesitate because of the cost of doing so.  I’ve already put so much money into these solutions that I am not sure I want to throw it away by starting over and secondly, I’m not sure which new storage solution to go with.

I’ve seen Jennifer McGuire and Kristena Werner use the Avery Elle storage pockets (which I sell now!) and the Fridge Binz Containers  but that’s another expense and I don’t like my dies falling to the bottom of a storage pocket.  I’d want them on a magnetic sheet and I’m sure that would cost a fortune to buy that many magnetic sheets!

I have also seen people use magnets to stick their dies a wall or cabinet door and that is not something I want to do. I don’t like the look of that. (no offense to anyone who does this LOL)

So my question to you my friends, is how do you store your dies?  Which of the above solutions (if any) have you tried and what do you think of them?  If you have another solution not mentioned here, please leave a comment and share with me to help me with my die storage dilemma!  Thanks in advance!

I don’t know what you will end up with eventually, but if you need magnetic sheets, go to Lowes or Home Depot and get the magnetic vent covers. They are about 8″x15″ and the magnet is fairly strong. I just bought a package of 3 sheets for about $5.00. I am at work so I can’t measure the sheets, but 8×15 is probably close. You will find these in the furnace duct work area. Good luck, Kat!

I went to a yard sale and bought a large CD binder book with zipper and handle. I buy magnetic sheets and put my nesties on there and put sheet in the binder. They all stay put and easy to transport. I use my J’s or M’s coupon for the sheets.
