I’ve not been blogging much lately, either here or at Kat Scrappiness because I’m currently (obsessed) with my scraprooms. As you know from my scrap room video tour, I currently have my scrap room in the dining area of my kitchen. When I started Kat Scrappiness, I was doing everything in there but I quickly outgrew the space and ended up taking over my oldest son’s bedroom when he moved out. This is what the Kat Scrappiness room looks like now.
Well, my son has moved back home and needs his room back so I’ve decided to take over the living room (which we don’t currently use) and combine both my scrap room and the Kat Scrappiness rooms into one large craft room in the living room. Here are a couple of before pictures of the living room (we were storing my son’s stuff in there).
The room measures approximately 10′ x 18′ and it will now serve as my new craft/scrap room and home office. I am mostly using the furniture I already have (which is a mish-mash) and will be adding just a few new items to the room in an attempt to make it a little more “pretty”. Right now my scrap rooms are functional but not “pretty”, and since I spend most of my time in that room, I am going to “pretty it up” as much as I can afford to.
The first thing I decided was to have an island desk and since I cannot afford the one I want (from Pottery Barn), I’m building my own. I ordered two bookshelves from Walmart.com for $19.99 each and found a counter top at a thrift store today that is approximately 3′ x 5′ which only cost me $12.00! I bought some laminate paint for $20.00 at Walmart tonight and am going to paint the counter top black and will share before and after pictures as soon as I’ve completed it.
These are the bookshelves I ordered:
I also found this piece at the thrift store today. It’s made of real wood and the bottom drawer is a double filing cabinet with a large drawer in the middle and a shallow drawer on top. Guess how much I paid for this piece?
Are you ready? $20.00! I just LOVE it! it’s going to be a great addition to my room!
I also have been busy re-painting my three fira boxes from Ikea. This is what they looked like before I painted them:
And this is what they look like now.
I also made a sign for my Kat Scrappiness room (before I knew I was moving it!) and here is a picture:
I used paper from the Pebble’s Fresh Goods collection for the sign, and a piece of “Scarf” paper from Studio Calico for the letters which I cut out with my cameo and added a red doily and some flowers which I misted with my glimmer mist and Lindy’s sprays. It was fun to make and I think I’ll hang it over my Kat Scrappiness desk area when I get it set back up.
So as you can see, the reason I’ve been quiet on the blogging front is only because I’m busy in real life 🙂 I’ll be back and promise to share before and after pictures during the process of combining and moving the two rooms into one. Wish me luck! It’s going to be a lot of hard work!
Tomorrow’s Friday…have a safe and happy weekend!

What a big job, Kat! Love your thrift store find! I just recently moved my craft room upstairs to a small loft area in order for my baby girl to have a room. Oh well…17 more years and I “might” get it back! Take care!
