It’s a glorious day!

March 13, 2012 by Kat 5 Comments

Hi friends and family!  I have two pieces of very good news to share with you today.  Justin started a new treatment program called Suboxone.

Suboxone is a narcotic medication indicated for the treatment of opioid dependence.  It comes as a little film that you put under your tongue and it dissolves.  Justin took his first dose this morning and almost immediately he said he felt good.  He said he felt “normal”.  His exact quote was “I feel normal not high and not-not high”.  He has felt like this since he was in rehab or since before he started using drugs.

He was in the stages of withdrawal and this medication immediately stopped the symptoms!  The doctor gave him a bunch of herbal medications as well.  They included vitamins (A TON), Ginger root, Coenzymes and Valarian Root. Not only does it take away the symptoms of withdraw, but while someone is on suboxone, they CANNOT get high!  If they take an opiate it will do absolutely nothing to them so it’s just a waste of their money!  It also takes away the cravings for the drugs as long as you are on the right dose of suboxone.  This will ensure that he does not overdose again.  This new doctor really knows a lot about opiate addiction and for the first time in a long time we have hope again!

If anyone wants to know about suboxone treatment, just let me know and I’ll post some links to the places I did our research.  I’ll keep you all updated and let you know how he is doing.

I cannot thank you all enough for all of your thoughts prayers and well wishes.  So many of you have asked about Justin on a regular basis and it means the world to me (and him now that he is clear headed).  We want to continue to ask for your prayers because this is not a cure, it’s just a step in the right direction.  He has a LONG road ahead of him because this is a life long disease that never goes away and he cannot stay on this medication forever.   (It’s expensive)

I also have MORE good news!

My brother and his wife are having a baby BOY!

With five nieces you can only imagine how thrilled I am!!!  I imagine a mini-me of my brother and just can’t wait!  The due date is around August 2nd or so (right around Justin’s birthday!) and although they live in Idaho, we have skype!  Thank God for skype, huh?

I thank God for all of his blessings today for it truly is a glorious day today in the Driggers household.  Remember everyone even in the darkest places, there is always hope so never give up.  (no matter how hard it is).

Good for Justin and thank God he is doing well and responding well to this treatment. My daughter was hooked on pain meds after her surgery and she was put in the hospital by her surgeon to withdrawal her form the drugs. She also did street drugs while in the hospital. But long story she is now doing much better and gets it that she cannot do drugs with the disease she has. But it was a long journey. And like you said with no end. Addiction is a terrible thing.
Congrats on the first boy in the family. Thank you for opening up on your personal life. Sometimes we feel we are the only ones on the boat and we learn that we are not alone. So many of us are on it with you.

My son also had a problem with drugs, and alcohol! Thank God and I do Thank God, because I believe it was him that helped him see that his daughter was THE more important thing in his life and he is living clean and well now for quite a few years! He has a great galfriend, and wonderful and beautiful daughter who he loves more than anything in the world and that was what brought him out of the darkness. I am so happy for you and Justin and will continue to pray for both of you and know in my heart that this will be what will make it for him! Congrats on the Baby Boy, I just had my first and ONLY Grandson born in August I have 2 granddaughters so I am now triply blessed. Thanks for everything you do for us, we all love you!

Yea, we have the boy we’ve been waiting for! I knew it! Now for some names. I know Jason will be one of them but the girls have 4 so I hope we have a Michael and something cool like Cody. I can’t think of a state that sounds masculine.
